  TestDBTable, DerbyController: code cleanup, but no luck with new Jenkins

TestDBTable fails on a strange SQLTimeoutException (ERROR XBDA0) error
when connecting to already started Derby database.
The reason is unknown so far, port collision is probably not the reason.
If the port is taken, it blocks forever sooner in the code (at least on
my Windows machine).
