[midPoint] Convert string to binary data in 3.5.1 - outbound mapping

Hello Attila,

thanks for finding the patch. I absolutely forgot about it. It seems to 
be safe to use it with 3.5.1; in fact, I'm cherrypicking it now into 
3.5-support branch.
